During the 2011 Christmas break, when many of my Sixth Grade friends where home opening presents and enjoying their holiday with family and friends, I was quietly suffering a traumatic medical experience. When the bell rang at 8:00 am on January 3, 2012 my classmates returned to school for second semester, while I was laying in a bed at a hospital Pediatric ICU wing fighting for my life. Over the course of a few days I experienced several seizures. All I can remember is that I wanted to sleep. On one occasion when I did awaken for a brief moment, I asked my mom if my left leg and arm were broken, because I could not move them. I tried to move my mouth to give a faint smile, but I could not. I was paralyzed. Sometimes I was in pain. When I received medication to stop the seizures all I would do was sleep, sleep and sleep. It turns out that I had a brain infection that required surgery and my doctors were not sure about the outcome. What my doctors did not know is that everyone at school was asked to “Pray for Taye” and there were hundreds of prayers going up to the God who created me. God heard every one of those prayers and answered them. Ten days after brain surgery; after having multiple seizures, and after being in an induced coma; I finally woke up! I yawned three times and then moved my arm, then my leg, and turned and looked at my mom and smiled! I was transferred out of ICU to the hospital’s rehab unit, where I would learn to use my left hand and leg again. I had to relearn to use my brain and thinking skills. God answered ALL of our prayers and after about 10 weeks I return to school!
Here are a few pictures to show how God answers prayer.
